Almost anyone who knows anything about Oklahoma politics would have said J.C. Watts would run for governor. This is not true however, according to newsok.com Watts has business obligations which won't allow him to run. "I am deeply honored, humbled and grateful for the confidence they [Oklahoma residents] have shown in me. I’m sorry we won’t fulfill our goals together." Watts stated.
There is little doubt that Watts entering the race would have energized the Republican party. "It’s all about timing,” Oklahoma Republican chairman Gary Jones said. "The timing just wasn’t right.” With Watts decision it appears that there will be two people running. Tom Cole was rumored to be considering running but sources close to Cole say he is focused on serving the people of Oklahoma in the US House of Representatives.
